Move over movie stars, the idols are here to take over your endorsements.
Brand 38 Institute conducted a 10-day study poll where they showed 1,012 people over the age of 17 a list of 239 celebrities.
This was not a study to show which celebrity has the most number of ads, but to determine which celebrity people think has the most ads because they’ve seen those stars in CFs and posters so many times.
The results showed that 16.01% of those people thought 2PM was the one they frequently see in ads so these boys took the #1 spot. Second place went to MC Yoo Jae Suk with 13.34% of the votes. SNSD came in third place with 11.86%. In fourth place was figure skater Kim Yuna, with 9.49%.
The thing that caught people’s eye was the fact that within the top ten list, eight of them were idol groups. They were 2PM (1st), SNSD (3rd), 2AM (6th), CNBLUE (7th), Brown Eyed Girls (8th), BEAST (9th), SHINee (10th) and T-ara (10th).
All other idol groups such as Super Junior, After School, f(x), Wonder Girls, Big Bang, KARA, SS501, 4minute, F.T. Island, 2NE1, MBLAQ, ZE:A made it within the top 40 list.
22 idols groups took 44.8% of the votes, which isn’t over half but very close to it.
Then there was a smaller study on picking one member within the idol groups in terms of familiarity. That means it’s not according to the fanbase of these groups but rather just people who come across these idols in their lives. This isn’t necessarily their favorite number but who they think is the most known.
According to Brand 38 Institute, here are the “hottest members” of each group: 2PM’s Taecyeon, SNSD’s Taeyeon, 2AM’s Jokwon, CNBLUE’s Yonghwa, Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga-In, BEAST’s Doojoon, SHINee’s Jonghyun, T-ara’s Jiyeon, After School’s UEE, Super Junior’s Leeteuk, TVXQ’s Junsu, KARA’s Goo Hara, 2NE1’s Park Bom, MBLAQ’s Lee Joon, SS501’s Hyunjoong, Big Bang’s T.O.P, f(x)’s Victoria, 4minute’s HyunA, Wonder Girls’ Yenny, F.T.Island’s Hongki and ZE:A’s Moon Joon Young.
Although the idol effect has steadily been dominating Korea, I’m definitely surprised at some of these results. Are you?
